Format of Belgian Postal CodesBelgian postal codes are written as a sequence of 4 digits. In general the first digit of a postal code indicates the province. But Belgian postal codes beginning with 3 are shared by the eastern part of Flemish Brabant and Limburg. Postal codes beginning with 1 are shared by the Brussels Capital Region, the western part of Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant.
Every Belgian postal code with zeros in the rest positions indicates the largest city or the capital of the province e.g. postcode 8000 refers to Brugge, the capital and largest city of West Flanders. Special postal codes are reserved for the NATO headquarters, EU institutions, public and commercial broadcasters and etc.
