Swiss Postal Codes FormatSwiss postal codes have 4 digit format. Switzerland is divided into 9 postal districts. They don't follow political divisions (cantons or districts) and are numbered geographically from west to east.
The first digit of each postal code indicates the postal district. Each district is subdivided into postal areas with not more than 100 units. Thus the second digit of each Swiss postal code indicates the postal area. And the rest 2 digits correspond with the post office number. Postal codes of big cities end with 00. And the sequence 00 is not allocated to any postal code, if there is no big city in the postal area.
